Sandra. Graduation 2012. Alliant International University.

“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”

-Oscar Wilde

This quote couldn’t be any more perfect for Sandra’s graduation photo shoot. Sandra will earn her Masters degree in Family Therapy from Alliant University and then continue her education, literally right after, to pursue a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD). Ya, she’s kinda on her way to becoming a rockstar in the mental health profession. She is getting her education on, all while taking the time to look super chic. She put together the cutest little ensembles for this photo shoot. Sandra is just awesome. She’s a sweetheart that know’s exactly what she wants in life. Sandra is getting ready to take on the world and become an agent of change for our society.

I’m so excited for you Sandra. I think education is one of the bests gifts to give yourself. Good luck in your PsyD program and thank you for letting me capture your beauty during this amazing moment in your life! Here’s more of Sandra’s Shoot.

Love the chevron here.

Styled for Summer. 2012.

I’ve been brainstorming and when that happens I get carried away and can’t stop. So basically I have been driving myself crazy trying to come up with a cute way to share the styles of clothing I love for babies, toddlers and kids, with all of you! Clients always ask me, “Evie, what should my son/daughter wear for their photo shoot?” “Hmm!” I think. So, I usually text, email or Facebook message my clients pictures of outfits, or try to describe what would look best for their shoot. That method worked pretty well, but then I thought what would be better and well, easier? And here is what I cooked up. I present  to you and my future  clients a styled pin board with a link from my favorite site Pinterest of course! I mean who doesn’t’ stare at their computer, or phone and pin a billion and one ideas, quotes, recipes, and projects that they are going to embark on and complete during the week? Ya right, I love Pinterest, but there are only twenty-four hours in a day and I need at least seven to sleep. I try to recreate some of my pins because I would be a liar if I I didn’t admit that I mostly like pinning so I can pretend I’m rich, buy every pretty item I see on my board, and have them laid out in my closet like Mariah. Just saying’!

Well enough of my jibber jabber. I now present to you my styled boy and girl pin boards for Summer 2012!

Mother’s Day 2012. Picnic. Arboretum.

What’s the best thing about being a mother? Well, getting spoiled on Mother’s Day of course! Just kidding. I can proudly say I am celebrating my second mother’s day, and I did it in style. Last year, my little bebe was only a little over two months so I was not only a new mama, but a milk-making moo, I mean cow. Did I just call myself a cow? That’s right, just hook me up to a pump and feed me grass. I’m just being real ya’ll. This year was much different. He was a walking, talking and a playing machine. I have more freedom to get crafty, but I’m doing a lot more chasing too!

I wanted to do a little something for myself. Yes, I was planning on being selfish on mother’s day. I mean come on, the lil’ guy can’t make me breakfast until at least three more years (Daddy better start teaching him how to start flipping’ that french toast).  My sisters and I put together a Mother’s Day picnic at one of our mommy’s favorite spots, the Arcadia Arboretum. Vintage books, a chair, and wooden containers were filled with pretty pastel flowers, mouth-watering french macaroons, and homemade doughnuts. I made tissue paper and lace garland as a backdrop, but my favorite detail was the bright pink afghan that we used to relax on while getting our fill of desserts, sandwiches, and spinach quiche.

Mother’s day is about celebrating with the ones we nurture or nurture us. I love my son with all my heart. Every moment I spend with him is like a firework on the 4th of July. He lights up my life and his firecracker personality never gets dull. My mom and I are so close that we could be sisters, literally only a decade and some more years apart, but that’s what I love about our relationship. We can talk about everything and anything from my goals to what I’m going to wear for the next party. Unfortunately, my sisters and I didn’t get any pictures with our mommy dearest because her and our two younger sisters were running late. When they arrived there wasn’t any more time to pose for pictures and we were so excited that us five girls, grandson, and “Nana” were all together in the same place at the same time that we completely forgot to snap that camera. This is why it is so important to make sure you always try and capture your memories, weather big or small, they all matter!

My favorite, next to creme brûlée, next to flan, next to…oh what the heck I’m a sweet addict.

I adore my sisters, and I guess we were all using the same color swatch while shopping.
My husband was behind the lens in all theses shots. He’s not so bad, huh?And here he is, busy getting into some sort of shinanigans.

Christie. Graduation 2012. California State University of Fullerton.

Graduations are exciting, rejuvenating, and oh so much fun! They are a time to celebrate with family and friends. Christie is ready to scream and shout hip, hip, hooray for her graduation from Cal Sate Fullerton this Friday! She is also uber excited to work with kids from any age or grade level. This girl is prepared and confidant to enter the real-wold work force. She is ready to get her grade book out and pencils sharpened at any school. I love it when newbie teachers are as pumped as a NBA team in the playoffs, to conquer our fight for literacy! Teachers, like Christie, need to enter the teaching field fast. She was so vibrant and completely cute in her photo shoot.

Congratulations Christie! Students, watch out because Ms. Hemenway is ready to get her teaching on!

Seriously a gorgeous smile!Confidant and ready!
Can she be any more breathtaking? Teachers always know how to have fun!

Danielle. Graduation 2012. CSUDH.

There comes a point in a college student’s life when all of the care-free days suddenly come to a screeching halt. Graduating seniors realize that those late night coffee runs will become a distant memory. Applications, resumes, and interviews are creeping upon each student as they cram for their last finals. Life is next on the agenda. Danielle, a Cal State Dominguez Hills senior, is going through the same questions and hurdles seniors dread. What are you going to do once you graduate? Where will you work? Well, Danielle knows exactly what she want to do, TEACH! The great thing about Danielle is that, no matter how tough it gets, she keeps pushing on. Danielle is a natural sun-shiny kinda gal. She’s always smiling away and giggling at anything and everything (even her boyfriend’s cheese-ball jokes). Danielle has studied her tush off to become a junior high science teacher. She has a passion for teaching and loves coming up with crafty lessons to get students to not only understand science, but learn to enjoy it. Like with all professions, Danielle is now playing the waiting game until she hears back from the local school districts.

Good luck Danielle, I’m sure you are going to rock the classroom, just like your shoot!

See you have to have a sense of humor to work with jr. high kids.
Hopefully she has a tough side, because she’s gonna need it to handle those pubescent trouble makers.Danielle, like myself, also loves Etsy. She ordered this planet bracelet. Way cool!Done! Done! Done! She has the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen! Pretty.

Reyna. Celebrating 25.

This birthday session was not only a celebration of 25 years young, but a celebration of being alive. You never know which direction your ship will have to sail during this journey we call life. All you can do is hope for the best and ride the unpredictable waves until the storm calms. Sometimes life can take you in an unexpected whirlwind of events, like an unforeseen illness.  A few years ago Reyna was diagnosed with Sjögren’s disease and Fibromyalgia. This took her sail spinning in what may have seemed like an endless black hole. However, much like the sea, Reyna’s life took another direction once she found out she was pregnant with her first child. Not knowing how her body would respond, she faced the pregnancy like a trooper and delivered a healthy baby boy. Although she continued to feel pain and discomfort from her illness, Reyna and Jaime, her husband, were thrilled to start their new little happy family.

Like every mother knows, raising your first child is full of challenges, both mentally and physically. So, I can’t imagine how she must have felt every time her body became fatigued. But she made it! Her son, Jayden, will be turning one this July. Reyna is still filled with undeniable gratefulness for the life that she gets to share with her family.

Reyna came to me and asked if I could create a birthday photo shoot for her that represented the struggles that she has had to overcome as well as celebrating the things she loved to do before her illness. She wanted to “freeze in time” doing some things we can take for granted, like wearing heels and dancing. Reyna is a beautiful person, with the biggest heart, so of course I wanted to help her celebrate twenty-five, by creating a girly feel in her photo shoot. I hope I did her vision justice!

Happy Birthday Reyna! May life continue to bring you only the best! Here’s your Birthday Slideshow.

She surely is working those heels! She is always full of laughter. Love it!
My new favorite obsession, confetti!

Nico, Daniel, and Daddy

You would think this was an early father’s day gift for this awesome dad here, but it’s not. It totally could be though! These photos show classic love, the kind that is very playful and fun, between a father and his sons. Actually, this is a gift for their super sweet mother. Yes, it’s a mother’s day gift, from them, to her. She wanted to capture this moment in time, before they grow up and it becomes “too cool” or think it’s “not acceptable” to play around with their daddy and put on an incredibly cute and cheesy face for the camera. She wants to always remember the love that she sees everyday between the boys in her life. Often times we only get to see these joyful interactions for a fraction of the day because of work, cooking, or homework just get in the way. Their dad is one incredible guy. Not only is he a psychologist for hundreds of needy middle school kids, but he still has time to teach his young boys how to be polite and caring so one day they will turn into good men and loving fathers, like himself.

Nico and Daniel were perfect candidates for this mini-mother’s day shoot. They had the most interesting expressions and thought every pose was the funniest and best thing since sliced bread. Gotta love these happy boys!

Happy Mother’s Day Yajaira!

Love,

Nico, Daniel and their daddy! See their slideshow here: Click to see more of Nico, Daniel and Daddy.

Baby Noah.

I think if you’d ask any photographer they’d agree that a satisfied customer makes them happy, but what puts the cherry on top is when loyal clients turn into friends. Yes, I am quietly imagining shaking my pom pom and waving a yippee flag as I am photographing Diana and Ario’s one-month old son, Noah. Yes, moi, was excited to not only shoot Diana and Ario’s gorgeous maternity session in Malibu, but thrilled to create a photo booth and photograph their baby shower as well. Now, I’m floored because I’m honored to shoot their baby’s new born session. Typically newborn sessions are taken within the first week of their precocious entrance into the world. Since Diana had to deliver this champ early, she wanted to wait until he was ready for his big debut.

Yay, Diana and Ario! You are now officially parents. I’m so happy and excited for you both. Can’t wait to see baby Noah grow!

Noah arrived on March 12, 2012 at 5 lbs. 12 oz. and 20 in.

This little cutie is smiling in his sleep.
Someone doesn’t like being swaddled.Newborn lips are teeny tiny.

Itty bitty toes.Hey daddy, are you already trying to teach him how to say what’s up?
I adore the preciousness here. (Yes, I think I just made up another word…lol)Noah was already getting a little pooped out by this point. Mommy really wanted to get the ring shot, so I had her hold his feet. I love the results!
I don’t know why but newborns always look so darn cute in owl outfits.
