Father and Son. Personal. Los Angeles Lifestyle Photographer.

I love Pinterest, but who doesn’t? I think I’ve mentioned that a couple of hundred times. Well, I love getting compositional image inspiration from there for both my professional and personal photography. A few years back I came across a gorgeous photo of a mother and her daughter lying down in opposite directions. The little blurb underneath the photo said that this image could be taken annually to show the child’s growth and age. A light bulb went off and I thought how wonderful this would be to take a picture like this every Father’s Day for my son. In my mind I created my own perfect pose with my son and husband, but that was a fail for the first two Father’s Days. Father’s Day number one I completely ran out of time. Father’s Day number two, when my son was a little over a year old, he just wouldn’t stay still for the life of him. I was super sad that I had already lost two opportunities. Not this year! No matter what I was determined to get that shot, even if it wasn’t as gorgeous as the image I feel in love with. Of course my son knew I wanted to take a picture of him and decided to get a little cranky. He knows now that when he sees my camera or phone he either runs or say, “Mama no pictures please.” Well, here is how it went (in case any momtogs want to try it out, especially with a boy)…

Photo one-since the original images that I’m trying to imitate was with both subjects lying down in reverse directions I thought it would be easier to hang my son then to get him to lay there. I almost got the photo but he wasn’t looking at me and I couldn’t see all of his cute little facial features.

Photo 2 (with a million in between) This is as good as it’s going to get. They are both smiling and their heads are pretty close together. It would have been awesome if my son’s hair wasn’t flying all over the place and if while taking the photo I would have zoomed it a little closer…and really just had them lying down, but I’ll take it!

I just love everything about his image except for my husband’s nasty armpit hairs. I mean, come on I know he just wanted to match what my son was wearing but keep that arm down next time honey.

Katie, Hai and Hanson. Family. Los Angeles Family Photographer.

Usually the birthday boy or girl tends to favor and make a huge deal for the popular 10th,18th, 21st, 30th, and/or 50th birthdays. But the first birthday…well that’s a celebration for the parents. It’s a time to reflect back on all the struggles, triumphs, and adorably cute moments. Katie wanted to get in as many photo options and outfits as possible (along with a little cake action too!) in preparation for her son Hanson’s First Birthday. So, Katie and Hai booked a family photo session that ended with a Smash The Cake segment. I thought it was a great idea, especially because the mom and dad are going to be able to partake in the photo memories as well. Making it to that first year is definitely not just an accomplishment for the baby but for the entire family (or like they say…village).

I love hearing all the craftiness that goes into first birthdays (and I was a little on the nosy side) so I asked Katie and Hai, as I normally ask all parents, what will be the baby’s first birthday party’s theme? They replied, that instead of a birthday, they are celebrating with a trip to Maui, Hawaii. I was like, “Wow, that’s super awesome!” Although I love hearing about the cuteness of birthday parties, any type of vacation is just as fun. Since I think it’s more of a celebration for the parents, a family vacation is perfect too! (Hmm, that’s starting to give me an idea:)

Katie you looked beautiful and thank you for being so protective of my belly. Hai thank you for having so much energy especially when us ladies had you running around. Katie also brought her sister who was a super auntie and tried everything possible to help Hanson give us the best smiles. Have fun you all on your vacation and I wish Hanson the best of birthdays!

Happy 4th of July. Personal. Los Angles Lifestyle Photographer.

Higher! Higher! Higher!

Every year while my sister and I watched our fireworks pop off we would shout out “higher, higher, higher.” You know as a little tot everything and anything seems possible. So, we actually (well at least my gullible self did) thought that the fireworks would  rise higher if we screamed louder and longer. These fond memories made 4th of July magical for me and now I have hopefully passed on this same feeling to my son. Last year I started training him to screech like a siren, but he was still a whittle thang. After numerous times of practicing at the Disneyland firework show I think my wee whistle is ready to holler his heart out!

Swag

Shirt: Baby Gap

Shorts: Old Navy

Shoes: Saltwater Sandals

Happy 4th of July 2013!
Oh his smile melts my heart every time.Go figure…I think he was stretching out for what’s coming next. All I said was imagine your wand is a pretend firework. Now show me what it does….kids have great ideas!
I guess this little firework got pooped out!

Benjamin. Smash The Cake. Los Angeles Baby Photographer.

Darling Benny. I know your parents call you Benjamin, but I can’t help it that every time I hear your name I reminisce of when I used to swoon over Benjamin “The Jet” Rodriguez (aka Benny) from the Sandlot. I’m sure all the little girly tikes are already making your parents start to think of how they will keep your handsome self safe in your teen-years.

You can tell that his parents are his everything because no matter where I tried to position my camera, he always seemed to give his parents the first smile. After photographing his baptism, I was lucky enough to get a peek at his very modern nursery. This set the stage for his Smash session.  After speaking with his mama, we figured out that we were going to go for a clean, modern, and simple Smash the Cake session. Benjamin’s parents dressed up their little looker in the most fashionable outfits and accessories. I love the way the blue ikat fabric complimented his mustard pants. I was also dying over his polkadot bow ties!

Benjamin and his parents will celebrate his first birthday (as probably most summer babies do) near the cool water. They are going to have a quaint little birthday party at a remote beach near their home in Long Beach. In some of the photos below, Benjamin is wearing an adorably-orange crab beanie to represent his Zodiac birthday sign, Cancer. Out of curiosity, I looked up his sign and the best traits for this astrological sign are being charitable, loving, and faithful…more and more pluses for the ladies!

Happy Birthday Benny! I hope all your dreams come true!

I’ve been getting a lot of request from potential clients about what my current clients are wearing, so I am going to start to provide you all with the goods (style & swag).

Benjamin’s swag:

All clothing: Baby Gap

Bow ties: Jacadi Paris

White diaper cover: The Honest Company

The photos below just screams “uh-oh I got caught getting dirty while eating an entire cake.”

My favorite. Look at that smile!
It’s his birthday and he can cry if he wants to!He wanted to share…aww.Second fave! I love how the polkadots stand out in this black and white image.Hey, don’t stick your tongue out at us Mr!A grown-up (toddler-aged) little prince look.

Mr. + Mrs. Vieira. Married. Orange County Wedding Photographer.

Jaime and Jorge said their “I dos” on a perfect June afternoon at the lovely Villa Del Sol in Fullerton. She lit up the room with a very sweet glow as he was looking charming in black. They opted for an untraditional first look, where they just felt comfortable getting ready side-by-side and not really paying attention to the hustle and bustle of what the day would bring. You see, Jaime and Jorge love just being together and were enjoying each other’s company before officially becoming one. They didn’t want anything, even the getting ready part of the afternoon, to be over the top or out of the ordinary to display their love. This love that they have for one another is shown through their snuggles, laughs, and warm embraces. One thing that Jamie did want to make sure was known was the love she had for her late father. Jaime had mentioned to me that she would adorn her beautifully bright colored bouquet with a blue bandana in significance of her father whom recently passed. Using the bandana, that her father always carried with him, throughout the ceremony and wedding reception made his presence and love for them known. What a touching remembrance to have on such a special day. I love it how the bandana will be seen in almost every photograph where she is carrying her bouquet and then years later these images will carry the same sweet reminder of her father. Congratulations Jaime and Jorge on your endless love and the rest of your journey as Mrs. & Mrs. Vieira!

Thank you Nea for snapping some pretty photos of the event and handsome couple!
You are just flawless! Some family moments before walking down the isle. What a pretty in pink flower girl.
The “gents.”These ladies were always so poised and looking hot!Well the guys cleaned up very nice, but were always a little naughty!Work it girls!See what I mean, love their hugs!A few intimate moments with the maid of honor and best friend.
Waiting to get their smooch on.
How sweet is the left photo? I was weeping, literally weeping! This is my favorite, they are just beaming with rays of happiness!Kisses from the mamas. Love!A special dedication for Jaime’s late father. He was definitely there in spirit. Okay this little lady was a show stopper. Ninety-three and working it like no one’s business. I only pray that I have that much energy at her age.

Melissa + Luis. Engagment. Huntington Beach Engagement Photographer.

Laughter is the best…form of showing love and affection (ahhh you thought I was going to say medicine-well that too). Melissa and Luis kept each other cracking up (and me too) throughout their engagement session. It was super duper fun because, of course, Luis was making silly poses and faces almost after every serious pose. Oh, the outtakes. I would totally show them, but I think I’ll just hand them over to Melissa for future bribery (I mean use).

Their relationship began as a work romance when they met as youth sport coaches at a recreation department in 2006. As I can recall from what Melissa told me..these two young kids started chatting as friends, dated and fell in love. “The end” she said. Ha, she’s hilarious! After that they were inseparable. They received their bachelor degrees side by side, traveled on various adventures and started creating a fun-filled life together.

After Melissa and Luis took their Christmas card photos with me this past December they wanted to ask me to be their wedding photographer. However, they knew they were getting married on August 9th, which was only two days before my due date. Whaaa!!!!!!! I was so sad that wasn’t going to happen. =( …But what an honor that they still wanted me to photograph their endless love for their engagement session! I (along with my huge 8 month belly) was on board! These two are just too cute with their stylish selves! Congratulations Melissa and Luis! You two were amazing and I wish you nothing but love!
They are so playful, I think my jaw started to hurt by the end of the evening because of all the laughter.Excuse me, models!
Don’t mind his perfectly awesome matching argyle socks! The boy can dress…(Whoever knows which line this movie comes from you are awesome)I love your dress Melissa! How great are their kids’ smiles going to be, right? My favorite! Second favorite because this just sums up the session: Smiles and relaxation!

Vicky + Eduardo. Engagement. Orange County Engagement Photographer.

They were a mystery to me… I had a conversation with Eduardo and a few email exchanges with each one, but I had never met them. Really, I was a “big-a-bit” (as my son says for the opposite of a little bit) nervous and excited to photograph this couple. All I knew was that I was the photographer for their wedding (he he -I’m funny), they were getting married in early October, and their ceremony and reception would be held at Heritage Park in Santa Fe Springs. Over email conversations they really didn’t give much more detail about themselves either. Emails only led to me knowing that Vicky and Eduardo were sweet and polite. Finally, we met. As they slowly got out of their car I saw a pretty little thing walk my way along with a very smiley young man. Was it them? Sure was. They headed my way and addressed me by my first name. I asked Eduardo (It’s my husband’s name and I still manage to fumble with it)  how he knew it was me right away and he said that I had mentioned I was pregnant (duh baby brain). We all chuckled a little and got started.

My anxiety left immediately because Vicky and Eduardo were such sweethearts. They were very soft spoken and the longer into the session, the more I grew to know Vicky and Eduardo as a couple, which made me even more excited for their wedding. This adorable couple met three years ago at the LA Art Walk and knew that they were meant for one another. How cool is that? They truly only had eyes for one another and knew after two months of dating and hanging out they were destined, so they moved in together and have been inseparable ever since. This seven month engagement is going to fly by  and I can’t wait to help them document this amazing time in their life!

Congratulations Vicky and Eduardo you are going to look amazing on your wedding day!

You are an adorably handsome couple-seriously!I love her laugh on the bottom right. It’s images like these that make me want to photograph LOVE all day every day!My favorite. For some reason black and white images seem so timeless and tell the emotion immediately.  I felt like we were in a magical garden. You are gorgeous. Your eyes are amazing! No wonder Eduardo is so head-over-heels for ya!My second fave! The kite was my idea and I was sure glad they went with it-these images are so fun!
They really are soul mates here and it shows in the way she just breaths him in and his loving embrace. Had to get a smooch in there! Chowww! Ha ha, don’t’ mind my Mexican slang.
