Mateo and Giselle. Baptism. Los Angeles Baptism Photographer.

Mateo, two years, and his little sister Giselle, three months, received the sacrament of Baptism at the Church of the Good Shepard in Beverly Hills. It was an honor for me to help Mateo and Giselle’s parents document this momentous occasion in their children’s Catholic faith. Giselle was a sweet pea with her classic long white dress and laced bonnet, while her older brother suited up in an all white short ensemble. Baptisms always feel like mini weddings to me. The excitement that the parents feel and the preparation before the ceremony are all so traditional. After the Priest or Deacon blesses the children, the families gather for photos with their Godparents and soon after they are off to celebrate. Mateo was an excellent observer throughout the entire ceremony, yet baby cakes Giselle cried for a bit. What three-month old wouldn’t cry when she is getting oil and water poured over her sweet little forehead? After all was said and done, both cuties looked adorable posing with grandparents, Godparents and other relatives for their special spiritual day.How sweet are their outfits and these shoes!

Apple Picking. Personal. Southern California Family Photography.

Traditions make memories. Growing up, the traditions that my family created are what made the holidays even more magical. I would look forward to the simplest things that my parents, mostly my mom, would try and create with the little money we had. Some families have the same traditions as ours, like “school shopping” all in one weekend. During the summers our tradition was to spend back-to-back days at the library and weekends in search of free museums. Our Halloween costumes were always made by my grandmother. For Thanksgiving, someone, usually myself, makes my Nana’s stuffing and no matter what the weather is like, we all wear dresses to dinner. One of my favorite Christmas traditions is to open a gift from my mom on Christmas Eve, it is always a new pair of pajamas. They aren’t just any plain ole’ solid colored cotton collared pj set either. Nope. My mommy always tries to find the cutest and most unique type of sleepwear because plain old pjs would get boring year after year. And well, she knows we all love the years when we get a new set of Hello Kitty or old school footsie ones. The list could really go on and on for Christmas traditions, but lets move on before I start writing a novel. On new years Eve we always create our own ice cream called “shlop.” This tradition started a little late, after I was in college. I lived DC for a while and one of my roomies taught me how to make this ah-maze-ing dessert. It’s a take on Cold Stone Creamery’s treats. Basically you just get your favorite ice cream flavor (ours is vanilla) and all the candy and cookies that you want to mix in with the ice cream. You crush up the cookies and candies, then mix in the vanilla ice cream. You put it back in the freezer to harden and then when it hardens a little, you take it out and devour! For the love day (Valentine’s Day) my mom is cute and tries to get us little nicknacks like hanging heart lights or something cute from the dollar tree. Oh and I can’t forget The Three King’s Day, which falls on January 6th. I’m pretty sure this is a Mexican/Latin tradition, but we put our shoes out on the 5th and the story goes that The Three Kings come by and fill them with goodies because they brought baby Jesus gifts. To this day, we still get our shoes filled.  But the one tradition that makes my heart melt like real butter on white toasted bread is when it was our birthday and my mom would deliver a McDonald’s Happy Meal with a single balloon attached for our school lunch. As kids my family didn’t have much money to spend on eating out or getting a toy just because. My parents were young and still in school, so getting McDonald’s was an extra special treat. Although we aren’t in elementary school anymore, my mom still has balloons waiting for us at home with our favorite meal, which is either made or we go out and have dinner together.

Now why I am sharing all of my family’s personal traditions? Sometimes we forget the little things that make our lives special, or the people that created unforgettable memories that we will always cherish. Yes, sadly at times I take my mom for granted (I am human) because we are so close in age that I forget she isn’t just like an older nagging sister, but actually my loving mother that has taught me these traditions that make the holidays even more special for our family. I want to keep these traditions alive for my little family too. I hope my children will do the same with the traditions my mom has created and the new one’s that I have started as well. Thank you mommy, I love you!

To my honey bunnies, these memories are for you. Our second annual trip to Riley’s Farm. The best way to kick off Fall. rf1While I was uploading these photos I was trying to decide if the house or the bench was leaning….so I made both lean. Ha!

Ruby. 6 Months. Orange County Baby Photographer.

Ruby Zelda has got to be one of the cutest little six month old girls ever! With such a unique name you know she has to have one big personality, and does she ever! From the beginning to the very end, all I got were giggles, smiles, and smirks. Jammel and Bryant, Ruby’s parents, also wanted to have their fifteen minutes of camera fame in Ruby’s six month session. Now before you scroll down, I must tell you that you will be fooled by their looks. I don’t know what fountain of youth they are drinking from but these twenty-something year olds look like they are straight out of high school. Can I get some of their night cream? Along with their sweet looks, this cute couple was also full of smiles. They wanted Ruby’s session to reflect a bit of their personalities and style. We tried to incorporate a little red into every image to reflect the red color from her name. Jammel and Bryant love classic rock and 60’s folk so an acoustic guitar was a perfect addition to some of the images. And who doesn’t love a cute pink-nosed kitty? Meow! Jammel adores kitties so of course she found the most adorable cat dress and shoes for her little Ruby red to wear in one of the last few minutes of the session. Ruby, Jammel and Bryant thank you for making the session so fun and letting lively though your own personal style. rb1rb2rb3rb4Don’t ya just love the crown? Well, I do, but that’s because I made it…lol rb5rb6rb7rb8rb9My second favorite because it looks so dreamy.rb10rb11rb12rb13rb14rb15I really couldn’t decide between the next four images for my favorite. This one is the winner!

Eloise. Newborn. {Session 3}

This is session number three ya’ll. I hope you all aren’t bored to death with my children yet. It is really important for me to document this new little being in our lives as well as keep up my photography skills-can’t get rusty now! Sibling relationships are fascinating to me. I think back on all of the laughable moments, cat fights and intense conversations I’ve had with my four sisters and I couldn’t have been more grateful to have them in my life. Of Course, every one of us has gotten on the other’s nerves or borrowed a new (tag still on) top from the other’s closet with out asking first. So what happens after this? You pull hair, call each other some creative names, rehash some old boyfriend dirt from the past and repeat. Oh the joys of having sisters. But really though, I love them and wouldn’t trade my sisters for the world. Now, getting back to why I decided this as my third session. It was to watch and learn how a brother and sister relationship actually develops. I’ve always, I mean ALWAYS wanted a big brother. For one, I’m the eldest so just an older anything would have been cool, and second I always longed for a brother to put their arm over my shoulder when I fell down and cut my knee.  Now, it’s only fitting to start this post with… well of course the big brother placing his arm around his little sister.

You know I’m going to have to caption most of these, right?

This has got to be one of my top favorites. Baby girl is like, “Please don’t squish my one week old body.” While he is like,  “You are my sister and I’m going to protect ya, ya hear!”What in the world are they thinking about? Or are they singing a little medley?This one is my favorite. He is a proud big brother and she is a content little sister.“Kiss me you fool!”
“If you say so!”Tongue out, arms up, don’t care…
“P. U.  brother, your pits stank!”“Hey you think a sponge bath left you so clean? I think not!”“Word to our mother!” Okay tell me they don’t look like they are posing for a child’s rap cover album. HA!“Really this is all you do? I thought we were going to play some basketball and tennis when you got out?”“Wayne’s world…party time!”“Okay mother, we’ve had enough of this paparazzi business!”

Summer Sailing. Styled. Los Angeles Children’s Photography.

Farewell summer, well almost. This season may have come to an end with Labor Day, but along with the sweltering summer California heat it is still going strong in our hearts. Here is a little styled session to remind us all of warm nights under the stars, roasting marshmallows with friends, and maybe even a young summer love.
