There are so many ways to express love– through a hug, kiss, embrace…oh, the list the can go on and on. For Honora and Ryan they wanted to share the love they have for one another by sharing a few of their favorite things: cultures and traditions, and of course the tenderness they exhibit everyday. They put all of their love and sweat into creating a magical intimate wedding in Honora’s parents’ backyard. Succulent were adorned everywhere along with gorgeous summer lateens hung with care by her father and Ryan. Every detail was either custom-made or homegrown, including the precious mint tule dresses for the seven sweetest flower girls ever (made by her sister). Honora said that she couldn’t imagine leaving one cutie out so instead of just choosing a few, all seven little puffs of cuteness walked down the isle. Honor and Ryan have a very eclectic vintage slash hipster style that hails from the bay area (where they met). Of course not just any dress would do, so Honora’s mom sewed the most lovely A-line dress a mother could sew. And, boy oh boy, did Honora look stunning in her dress, while Ryan was pretty impressive himself in his gray suit. So, the saying is totally true, “When you feel a million bucks it shows.” When it was time for Honor and Ryan to take their photos they just shined, in both looks and that newlywed love. The rest of the afternoon was filled with heart-felt toasts, live music, and ended with the festivities of learning the Irish dance. Congratulations Honora and Ryan, I know you are going to have a fab time in Mexico. Safe travels!
Thank you Nea for always being my wing lady (aka second shooter).
Christina and Mario are waiting on their baby girl to arrive on August 11, just one day before my daughter’s first birthday. Yay for August babies! Christina and I ran track together in high school. She was the cutest little thing running up and down the soccer field. Ya, she was also pretty rad at soccer too! Being that it’s the World Cup this year, I’m sure she already has plans for her little baby girl to come out kicking. During Christina’s pregnancy she was lucky she didn’t have a bit of morning sickness and could eat whatever she wanted. They’ve already had their baby shower and now this (her pretty belly’s photos session) are pretty much the icing on the big old pregnancy cake.
It’s evident that Christina and Mario are totally in love with the fact they are about to become parents in a less then a few months. Congratulations Christina and Mario!
Now that we have kids, we aren’t about to quickly jump on a plane and take any major vacay, but we still love traveling up and down the coast of Cali. Two of our most favorite spots in SoCal are Palms Spring and San Diego. We said, “What the heck,” and took a little four-day getaway {with the kids of course}. Our first stop was Palm Springs. We hung out with some friends and enjoyed swimming, some more swimming and a few refreshing Palomas at Suguro’s El Jefe bar. In the morning we had breakfast at the Ace Hotel. Yup, their clean eating options were definitely on point! The next few days were spent walking around Sand Diego with our sisters. I brought my sister, Mimi, and we met up my hubby’s sister, Linda. She toured us around her campus, UCSD. Then we acted like tourist and dug our toes into as much sand as we could stand and ate at several Yelp rated hole-in-the-walls. Oh and I did a bit of shopping, of course! We ended our travels by the pier. My son thought one of the ships was a pirate ship. Hello, of course it is… and Captain Hook visits there sometimes. Summer is starting off pretty sweet! I know summer hasn’t even official started, but we got a head start.
Life and love are the purest form of God’s gift to us, no doubt. I believe love can heal and love can work miracles. When we get sick, when we grow old, or when we hurt; Love will mend our souls with a touch or a kiss and conquer over all the heartache and pain. Robert’s love for Desiree is the epitamy of this kind of powerful and unconditional heart-pounding, in sickness and in health, butterfly in your stomach kind of love. I’m pretty sure neither you nor I would have ever guessed Desiree was diagnosed with cancer unless she said mentioned it because she’s one of the most optimistic people I know. She’s gorgeous and her heart and personality seem to shine even brighter as if she has a halo around her entire body that exudes positivity. Robert and Desiree wanted this session to tell the world that they are ready to go to battle. With his hand in hers, their sweet embrace and touch will become her cancer’s kryptonite. During their session I could see why Robert adores Dez. She was there in the present, enjoying their time with one another and just being themselves. She reminded me to embrace this beautiful life no matter what the circumstances are.
I am still in awe of how strong Desiree is and how I feel so weak because I’m afraid. It seems as though every month my son and I pray for yet another person that is fighting cancer. I want to do something. I want to kick and scream. I want to yell at Cancer and punch it’s face in. I want it to tell it to got to the moon and never come back. But I can’t, so all I can do is pray and help spread some love your way so that you too will persevere and kick Cancer’s butt.
Desiree and Robert thank you for sharing your story and your love. God bless your journey!
This little nugget was a bit of an overachiever in the cake smashing department. Frida is timid, at first, then she starts working in the smiles, and bam! she finally comes out of her delicate shell and is the life of her own cake smashing party. In a few weeks Frida is going to have a totally cutesy girly themed and colored “picnic” first birthday party. The invite is not your typical red and white gingham blanket with primary colored decor and ants crawling on top of grapes and cheese. Nope, it’s very girly girl with lots of pastels and chevron, polk a dots, lemonade and of course watermelon. Nothings wrong with the boy version of a picnic party, but to transform it into something that’s can be called a pretty picnic is pure genius. Good job mama! Happy first birthday little Miss Frida!
Her name will be Genevieve Anne. Jennifer’s pretty bump will have a middle name that has been passed down over a few generations from women in her family. This little lady is fortunate to already have her room getting dolled up by her daddy, heirloom vintage clothing and furniture pieces passed down from her mother’s side and a whole lot of love from both families coming her way. Congratulations, baby Genevieve is already adored and I know once she arrives she will be as radiant as her mother in all of these images.
*Side note: My sister’s name is also Genevieve Ann, so as soon as we made that connection I knew she was another one of my prefect-for-me clients and she was also a little ecstatic at how we were kind of a perfect match too!
They met at one of the least expected places- a gas station. He caught her eye and she caught his. She had never done this before (flirting while pumping gas) but she couldn’t resist his perfect smile and the fact that they were both coincidentally wearing workout clothes. Carolina thought it was silly and felt so giddy while talking to him, but she had this instant attraction for him. David pumped gas long enough for him to muster up the courage to ask for her number. They both were a bit embarrassed and excused themselves for being so romantically forward at a common pit stop. Still, they exchanged numbers. At that moment, they knew it was more then just their physical attraction that kept them intrigued. True love does exist and it’s more in the personal connection that sends explosions into our bodies, like fireworks on the forth of July. Just plain magic….”Call it Magic” (Sorry, I just broke out and sang)! As a Chiropractor, Carolina has a very busy work schedule, so one weekend David swept her away for a much needed relaxing mini-vacation. They had a massage at Glen Ivy, dinner at the W, and finally relaxed on the balcony of their hotel where he proposed like a boss. He got down on one knee and opened up the famous cube-shaped box. She was enchanted by his thoughtfulness and of course agreed. I love it when clients I’ve known from the past ask me to photograph these amazing moments in their lives because it’s like time is non-existent. We pick right up from where we left off(for Carolina it was in sigh school) and become re-kindled friendships. Carolina is a sweet as a sugar-coated Christmas cookie. She is one of the most giving people I know and I’m sure David loves that about her. David is shy but has a calm quality to him that just makes you feel at ease and secure when you are around him. He is Carolina’s knight in shinning armor and it shows by the way he glances at her with nothing but love in his eyes and touches her so tenderly. They are a match for sure, and did I mention they have a darling daughter. I’m looking forward to documenting their glances and much more this coming September. Can’t wait!
