Surprise proposals are kind of like jack-in-the boxes, so much anticipation and excitement but never knowing what to really expect. Bobby was ready. He had his master plan, from the exact time they would begin and end dinner down to the second sunset was going to occur. We had met a few weeks before to go over the path where he would so sneakily walk her toward his ideal proposal spot. Like most events that are well-planned there is always some sort of road block or two. That afternoon the sun was setting fast and there was a nearby wedding taking place so security was extra tight. Bobby had perviously coordinated with the staff for his proposal, but for some reason not every single member was informed. After I arrived let’s just say we needed to pull out Plan B. Bobby was a trooper and I admired him for being so calm and collective as the sunlight slowly faded into the ocean all the while he was still trying to make his way and escort Lauren to his perfect proposal spot. I lurked around the corner trying my best not to be seen or heard. Bobby really wanted natural light shots, so using flash was strictly for use in case of a Plan C. As the time ticked I felt like yelling at the sun to stop, to wait and allow it’s beautiful hues of orange and red to glisten over Bobby and Lauren’s proposal. I guess my mental yelling helped a bit because we made it just in time. It wasn’t completely dark and I was able to capture the most nerve-wrecking session I have ever experienced.
Congratulations Bobby and Lauren! Your love runs deep. I could tell because within the few minutes I was able to photograph you together I felt your warmth, happiness, and connection surround you both like a thick winter blanket. If you can make it through this intense evening, you two kids can make it through anything!
